First of all, I'm wondering what the sweetest little gift you've ever given to or received from a close friend or significant other (boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, close friend) was. And, yes, I'm refering to gifts in the material sense so feel free to talk about "stuff".

The reason I'm asking this is because I sort of need help/inspiration. I've been seeing someone for the past month or so. Even though we've only gone out 4 times (it would be more but we've both been hugely busy since it's exam period) he calls me almost every day and we really "click." At any rate, I'm seeing him tomorrow night for the last time until January because I'm going back to the U.S. of A. on Wednesday. In all of my exam-preparation, the idea of buying him a Christmas gift completely slipped my mind! I'm not sure if I should or shouldn't... we haven't known each other *that* long... but what if he has something for me?! I could certainly use some last-minute thoughts/advice/inspiration. I also thought posting this would be a fun way for you to share some cute little stories about memorable little gifts from loved ones.

For someone you haven't known long, some type of Christmas treats or goodies are a safe bet, especially if you can bake them yourself. It's not always possible or easy to bake in student living quarters, though; if this is true for you, you might also consider something that has to do with what the two of you have in common. Perhaps a CD of the music you both like, for example, or maybe a gift certificate from one of your favorite coffee shops, bookstores, or restaurants.
    Hope this helps!

My best friend still insists that the best Christmas gift I ever got him was the year I cooked him dinner, and got a Christmas movie for us to watch together. Maybe the best gift is just a little time together

I think a watch not to expensive is a good idea watches range in all price ares, it would symbolise the "TIME" YOU spent together" in the attached card. A watch is not a real personal gift but meaningful, it would be cute so say something like this watch represents the time we spent together and the time we are apart till we see eachother again..

    Just a thought

I was flicking through the LLBean cataloge yesterday while eating my lunch. They have the cutest idea. Lexan bottles, Nalgeen is the brand name, filled with stuff. A pink spa bottle, a toblerone filled on and a car stuff bottle. There are $19. I wish I knew someone to give something like that too.

I love gift giving! (On a side note, I'm eating goldfish crackers that were in a lunch bag next to a bag of cookies... and now my parmesan fishies have a slight hint of Mint Milano!)

Last year for V-Day I gave my partner 3 pink mixing bowls, 3 red and pink rubber spatulas, and a jar of fancy pancake mix from Williams Sonoma. After giving the present, we made heart shaped pancakes and watched ER.

I don't know how romantic you want to gift, but one year a friend gave me several copies of books I'd loved from my childhood but had lost when my parents divorced.

One of my favorite Christmas gifts to get when I was in college and living in a cold area was anything to keep me warm. Gloves, mittens, warm pajama pants, etc. I really appreciated any of these things, especially if they were made well and could last a couple of winters.

It's not the sweetest gift ever, but one of my favorite gifts to give is a movie night. Buy a DVD and a box of microwave popcorn. Open the pocorn box carefully remove 1 or 2 bags and put the DVD into the box. Then reseal it, usually you can do this without it looking like the popcorn has ever been opened.

Then wrap that as the gift. One of my friends packages her movie nights with a Coke.

I gave one to a friend once and we was so excited because he loves Popcorn. It took him a while to realize there was more Then he was even more excited. Just make sure you give it to them in person, or else they might not realize there is more...

    Hi Amanda,

I second everyone's suggestion about having a nice night at home--I think that's what I'm going to suggest my boyfriend and I do for Christmas this year to save money. Plus...if he's like most men and doesn't think about presents till Dec. 24, he won't feel bad because you can say it's a gift for you both.

Wow, how thoughtful and special, and what a good listener that person must have been. I love when people remember the details. That must have meant so much.
